Recreation Commission History
The Recreation Commission’s mission is to establish, operate, and maintain a comprehensive recreation program for the citizens of Colleton County.
While the above Mission Statement is generally all-inclusive, it should be understood that it is because of the dedication of the Recreation Commission Board Members that we have any programs whatsoever. The Commission was founded in the early 1970's and, with little financial backing, has been able to maintain and grow its programming over the years. Fortunately, a while back it was decided to include the salaries of the staff members as part of the budget of Colleton County.
Beyond staff funding, the Recreation Commission is a self-sustaining, outside public entity.
Through the overwhelming support of the Commission, the organization now has the ability to expand its plans for new activities, as well as reorganize current offerings with new equipment and strategies.
